US-based technology infrastructure manufacturer Vertiv has announced a major expansion of its manufacturing operations across the north west of Northern Ireland, creating several hundred new roles over the next six months to strengthen electrical switchgear production, according to a Belfast News Letter report.

The expansion spans Vertiv's three existing facilities in Londonderry, Burnfoot and Letterkenny, with new positions spanning production operators, electricians, panel wirers, mechanical fitters, engineering, quality assurance and support functions. Full-time and part-time roles are available with a recently enhanced employee benefits package, and the company hosted a walk-in interview day on 25 February at the White Horse Hotel in Campsie.

Electrical switchgear is a critical component in data centres, industrial applications and communication networks. The expansion is directly linked to accelerating global demand for power systems driven by growth in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital infrastructure deployment.

Paul Ryan, president of Vertiv in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: "This expansion represents a major vote of confidence in the skilled workforce and business environment of the north west region. The creation of these roles in Londonderry/Derry and County Donegal will increase our manufacturing capacity and enable us to deliver critical digital infrastructure at scale and speed."

Vertiv currently employs more than 2,000 people across Ireland, making the north west region a significant part of the company's global manufacturing network. The investment reinforces the company's long-term commitment to the area and reflects confidence in local talent and infrastructure for serving international markets.

The expansion positions the region as a key production hub for components underpinning modern digital technology infrastructure worldwide.
