Sanmina Corporation, a Fortune 500 company and leading global provider of integrated electronic manufacturing solutions, has announced the expansion of its Fermoy medical facility in North Cork. The investment is expected to generate up to 150 highly skilled roles, with recruitment already underway across engineering, quality, manufacturing, and operations functions.
The Fermoy site, operational since 1989, has grown to become Sanmina’s largest medical facility in Europe. The expansion will enhance the company’s capabilities in the finished medical device market, reinforcing Ireland’s position as a hub for medical technology manufacturing. The upgraded facility includes a new ISO8 clean room and multiple high-volume automation lines dedicated to producing wearable medical devices. Its first new automation line has already been installed and commissioned.
An Taoiseach Micheál Martin officially opened the facility, highlighting the expansion as a vote of confidence in the skills and talent of Ireland’s workforce. “Sanmina has been part of the community in Fermoy since 1989. This expansion demonstrates Ireland’s continued attractiveness for international investment and its leadership in medical technology innovation,” he said.
Sean Moran, SVP of IMS Europe at Sanmina, emphasised the company’s long-term commitment to Fermoy and Ireland, pointing to the site’s culture of innovation and quality as central to its global success. Mary Buckley, Executive Director of IDA Ireland, noted that the expansion “future proofs the site” and reinforces Sanmina’s ongoing partnership with the Southwest Region.
The development will not only strengthen Sanmina’s operational footprint but also bolster Ireland’s role in global medical device manufacturing. It exemplifies how targeted investment in high-tech production and skilled labour can support growth, innovation, and regional employment simultaneously.
