Enovus Labs has unveiled its expanded R&D laboratory at Technological University Dublin’s Greenway Hub to accelerate the development of advanced cooling systems for extreme environments, including space and next-generation AI data centres.

The company, which made history earlier this year as the first Irish firm with technology operating on the lunar surface, is now scaling its manufacturing and testing capabilities. Co-founder and CTO Dr Nick Jeffers said the team is applying its space-proven innovations to meet rising demand for efficient cooling in compute-intensive industries.

At the centre of this development is Segri-COOL, a thermal control system inspired by elephant ear heat regulation. The technology is 60 per cent lighter and more efficient than conventional cooling solutions, offering lower production costs and higher performance.

Beyond lunar applications, Enovus is targeting the fast-growing AI data centre market, where effective cooling has become a priority amid rising energy demands. CEO Dr Brian Donnelly described the lab’s opening as “the next chapter” in commercialising its breakthrough thermal technology.

Tánaiste Simon Harris hailed Enovus’s achievement as a historic milestone for Irish innovation, marking the nation’s first hardware deployment on the moon.
