Ireland-based CEL has officially launched its first U.S. manufacturing site in Williamsburg, Virginia, backed by a $40 million capital commitment. The 400,000 sq ft facility is set to create 250 high-skilled jobs within the next year, expanding to 500 by 2030 across engineering, R&D, manufacturing, quality, logistics, and site services.

The move positions CEL to serve the fast-growing AI and cloud infrastructure market in the United States, producing low-voltage power distribution systems, switchgear, and Remote Power Panels designed to support next-generation AI workloads. The expansion also adds strategic capacity to CEL’s global footprint, bringing total production space to over 500,000 sq ft.

Virginia was selected for its established supply chain, technical talent pool, and strong ecosystem for data centre operations. Over 90% of materials for the facility will be sourced from U.S. suppliers, with CEL actively partnering with more than 30 local companies. The initiative also integrates workforce development through the U.S. Department of Defense’s Skillbridge program, offering career opportunities for military service members, who could fill up to half of the planned 500 roles.

Governor Glenn Youngkin welcomed CEL to the Commonwealth, noting the rapid deployment of the project and the region’s ability to attract and retain talent. CEL’s CEO, Niall McFadden, emphasised that the expansion is a critical milestone in the company’s global growth strategy, which aims for $500 million in annual revenue by 2030.

By combining advanced manufacturing, local supply chain engagement, and workforce development, CEL is aligning operational scale with strategic market growth in AI and cloud infrastructure. The facility underscores the increasing role of high-skilled production in supporting the next wave of data centre innovation in the U.S.
