Danish bakery manufacturer Bisca has acquired Drogheda-based East Coast Bakehouse in a €13 million deal that brings the Irish biscuit and cake manufacturer out of examinership and into a new phase of international growth. Ireland Live reported on the deal, confirmed on 10 May 2026.
East Coast Bakehouse will become a standalone subsidiary of Bisca's larger international company. All business and manufacturing activity will continue at the Drogheda site, with the company stating it hopes to create new jobs as part of joint growth plans.
Founded in 2016, East Coast Bakehouse manufactures under its own brand, The Bakehouse, The Home of Irish Biscuits, as well as own-label and contract manufacturing for major retailers across the UK and Ireland. The company exports to over 15 international markets.
Bisca is Denmark's leading cake and biscuit manufacturer, with a broad product portfolio and a significant customer base across Northern Europe. It is owned by Danish private equity fund Erhvervsinvest.
Kristian Walsøe, CEO at Bisca, said: "We are very pleased that the agreement has now been finalised, and we look forward to embarking on a new and exciting chapter for both Bisca and East Coast Bakehouse, continuing our joint efforts to deliver quality products within the cake, cookie and biscuit category."
Walsøe added that East Coast Bakehouse's products are an excellent fit with its portfolio, noting the company has a strong presence in Ireland and the UK, while Bisca has a solid position in the Nordics and Northern Europe, creating a strong combined geographic footprint, and that they operate a modern and well-established production setup that can be built upon.
