US-based scientific instrumentation and supply company Thermo Fisher Scientific has officially opened a purpose-built 70,000-square-foot distribution centre in Bracetown, County Meath, according to a Med-Tech Insights report.
The facility increases Thermo Fisher's in-country distribution capacity by more than 400%, broadening the company's ability to supply and store products supporting drug discovery research, clinical development and commercial manufacturing across Ireland's life sciences sector. By expanding local inventory and accelerating fulfilment, the centre is designed to help biopharmaceutical and academic organisations reduce lead times and maintain uninterrupted production.
The site incorporates an on-site solar system expected to generate approximately 120,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, alongside a high-efficiency heat pump enabling the facility to operate on 100 per cent renewable energy. The distribution centre has achieved an A2 Building Energy Rating, reflecting its energy performance credentials.
Claire Wallace, president of the research and safety market division for Europe at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "Today's opening reflects Thermo Fisher's long-term commitment to serving Ireland's vibrant life sciences sector. By expanding our local distribution capacity, we are responding more efficiently to the needs of our customers, partnering with them to improve the quality, speed and reliability of their supply chains."
Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke said: "This significant investment by Thermo Fisher Scientific reinforces Ireland's position as a global leader in life sciences and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The new distribution centre strengthens vital supply chain infrastructure and reflects continued confidence in Ireland's scientific talent, pro-enterprise environment and long-term strategic vision."
The opening was also attended by Rory Mullen, head of life sciences at IDA Ireland, alongside key customers from the life sciences industry and academia. Thermo Fisher Scientific describes itself as the world's leading company in serving science.
