Global natural ingredients leader Jungbunzlauer has completed the acquisition of its first U.S. manufacturing site in Thomson, Illinois, enhancing its ability to serve North American customers with greater proximity and responsiveness. The move marks a strategic expansion in the company’s growth journey, complementing its recently expanded biogums facility in Canada.
The Thomson site will be developed to support Jungbunzlauer’s portfolio of naturally derived ingredients, including citric acid, mineral salts, texturants, and acidulants. Preparations, equipment installation, and regulatory compliance work are already underway to ensure a smooth transition into operational production.
Jungbunzlauer’s CEO, Bruno Tremblay, highlighted that the acquisition allows the company to invest in advanced manufacturing while delivering sustainable, trusted solutions for customers and long-term value for the region. The company plans to create jobs, engage local suppliers, and contribute to the economic growth of the Thomson community.
The acquisition does not include any of International Flavors & Fragrances’ commercial business, product lines, or employees. Jungbunzlauer emphasises responsible sourcing, efficient operations, and strong community engagement as core principles in establishing its U.S. footprint.
David Schmit, Regional Director of Northwest Illinois Economic Development, welcomed the move, noting the potential for high-quality employment opportunities and local supplier partnerships. The company intends to provide ongoing updates on operational plans, future hiring, and community initiatives as the facility moves toward full production.
By localising production in the United States, Jungbunzlauer positions itself to meet growing demand for high-quality natural ingredients while strengthening its competitive presence in North America. This expansion reflects the company’s commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and customer-centric solutions.
