US medical equipment manufacturer Technimark is preparing a significant expansion in Longford, outlining plans for a new three storey, 9,545 sqm manufacturing campus that could generate up to 120 jobs. The development would broaden the company’s European medical device footprint and reinforce Ireland’s position as a preferred base for high value manufacturing despite global uncertainty.

The proposed facility, to be built on the former Eir depot in Templemichael Business Park, will focus on injection moulding and clean room production for medical devices. Its location was chosen for proximity to Technimark’s existing Longford site, where the company already employs around 147 people and has operated continuously since 2017. Planning documents emphasise that expanded clean room capacity is essential for meeting rising demand for healthcare products.

The Longford project aligns with Technimark’s sustained investment strategy in Ireland. In 2022 the company committed €26 million to expanding its current facility, adding advanced moulding capabilities, value added assembly, contract manufacturing services and establishing its first European Innovation Centre. The state supported that expansion through IDA Ireland.

The new development would build on a broader global growth trajectory. In recent years Technimark has acquired a 204,000 square foot medical facility in the US and accelerated expansions in the UK, Germany and China. The Longford proposal therefore marks another step in consolidating the company’s international production network while meeting the needs of global healthcare clients.

The planning decision will determine whether Longford secures another phase of high skilled manufacturing activity, strengthening Ireland’s life sciences and medical device ecosystem.
